Disorders of the Male Reproductive System Testicular cancer –Most common cancer in men ages 20–35 years –No symptoms; usually a painless lump is found on a testicle –Cause could be an undescended testicle (cryptorchidism) and a history of mumps

Disorders of the Male Reproductive System Prostatitis –Symptoms include burning while urinating, back pain, urinary frequency –Cause: bacterial from gonorrhea or urinary tract infection –Diagnostic tests: urinalysis, urine culture, and rectal exam –Treatment: medication and force fluids

Disorders of the Male Reproductive System Prostate cancer –A leading cause of death in men with metastasis to spine or pelvis –Symptoms include urinary obstruction, urinating frequently, and inability to urinate –Diagnostic tests include ultrasound, CAT scan, and PSA level –Treatment includes surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy

Disorders of the Male Reproductive System Benign prostatic hypertrophy –Cause: prostate constricts urethra –Diagnostic tests include prostate-specific antigen, excretory urography, ultrasound, and biopsy –Treatment includes medication or surgery known as transurethral resection

Disorders of the Male Reproductive System Sexually transmitted diseases –Affect men and women and can damage health and cause infertility Balanitis –Usually caused by poor hygiene in uncircumcised men –Also caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, caustic soaps, and improper rinsing with soap
