12 Introduction There are many types of interesting mammals. This WebQuest is designed so that 2 nd grade students can explore mammals, and learn about their characteristics, life cycles, diets, and habitats.

13 Learners This WebQuest is designed for 2 nd grade students. These students are beginning to read more fluently. Students using a WebQuest will need to have access to a computer with speakers, the Internet and the World Wide Web.

14 Standards  Indiana State Standards IN 2.3.1 Observe closely over a period of time and then record in pictures and words the changes in plants and animals throughout their life cycles- including details of their body plan, structure and timing of growth, reproduction and death. IN 2.3.2 Compare and contrast details of body plans and structures within the life cycles of plants and animals. IN 2.2.1 Use titles, tables of contents, and chapter headings to locate information in text  Common Core Standards CC RI.5 Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.

15 Process ›Review Indiana Academic Standards and curriculum objectives at your grade level. ›Research the topic using various Web sites, curriculum materials, textbooks, videos, and other virtual or printed material. ›Decide using a WebQuest checklist if this is an appropriate topic for a WebQuest. ›Design objectives with standards and match the task(s) to these. The assessment(s) should correspond with the objectives, standards, and task(s). Design rubrics that correspond and clearly help students know what will be expected of them. ›Review and decide on final web sites for students and those for yourself. ›Design your WebQuest. ›Edit and proofread as needed. ›Present your WebQuest to students after your overview of the projects, timelines, and expectations. ›Reflect on the success of your WebQuest and spruce up any areas of need.
