2. Introduction Gas prices in this world just seem to keep going up. Consumption from western Canada “has been greater than the reserve additions for all but one for the past 17 years”(NIkiforuk, 2000). limited supply of oil to manufacture gasoline, we must think of alternate means to supply our cars.

3. Introduction Continued. Using today’s combustion engines, we can make a vehicle that runs on anhydrous liquid ammonia. Ammonia is a renewable source of fuel that can be made economically plus have the ability to combust in today’s engines.

4. Proposal The Ammonia Team is asking for 100,000 dollars in government funding from the ministry of education in order to finance the construction of a vehicle that runs on ammonia.

5. Background and Problems Problem with gasoline The cost continues to rise at a quick pace. An article from the Canadian Economic Observer has stated that “gas prices in Canada have risen 84% from 2002 through May 2008” (Cross & Ghanem, 2008); the global demand continues to grow as well. Benzene is a frequently discussed air contaminate in terms of automobile emissions. “Motor vehicles account for approximately 85% of U.S. total benzene emission” (McDonald, 1990).

6. Why Ammonia? Anhydrous Ammonia is a chemical that is already being produced on a global scale. It is possible to manufacture ammonia using hydroelectric power, Ammonia contains no carbon so it releases no greenhouse gases. Ammonia is not flammable, in case of an accident scenario.
