Camp Kaitawa A beautiful sun set the mood of the Reignier School’s Year 5’s Camp Kaitawa, this was going to be a camp to remember. We had no idea what challenges we were up against in the week ahead like fantastic bush walks, challenging mountains, breath taking waterfalls and historic caves. I can’t wait for the amazing week ahead at Camp Kaitawa!

Monday O.M.G! We’ve finally arrived at Camp Kaitawa. As soon as we had finished unpacking we were off going for our first bush walk. We were so excited. When we were ready we walked down to the Kaitawa Power Station. I hurried to the front to get a better view of the historic monument, it was amazing. After a while when everyone had seen the power station we set off in to the fantastic bush. I must say the Green Lake is one of a kind. Then as soon as we had started we finished and were ready for dinner back at camp. At the end of our delicious meals we were off to bed and I was thankful!

Tuesday I woke up to the lovely smell of breakfast coming from the kitchen. I got up and jumped into some warm gear for the exhausting Ngamoko. Later on after breakfast we hopped in the cars and set off to Ngamoko. I went with Dom, Katlin’s mum, and we got lost. Luckily we were with ladies and we stopped and asked for directions. We got there just in the nick of time and set off. After 20 minutes we got to the tree whose age is to somewhere round 800 – 1000 years old. The amazing thing was it was 16m around the base. Finally we got to the top and we were 1050m above sea level. WOW! At the end of that long walk we ended up at camp. We had a shower, finished dinner and we went to bed. Today we had walked 15km and 71/2h. GREAT!

Wednesday We set off early Wednesday morning and did a walk out to Lake Waikareiti. It was stunning. It was like a flat piece of glass not a wave for as far as the eye could see. Beautiful! After that bush walk we went off onto the loop track to look at the waterfalls. The first was the best. You were so close you could feel its vibrant glow from were you sat. The second one was breath taking. It was a double waterfall, but this time you weren’t as close. I have never seen a double before then. We came back and did the Obstacle Course and you went in your cook out groups. It was awesome! We had a shower and off to bed.

Thursday Yippee! Caves today I can’t wait. I was up and ready in my warm gear and my head lamp on. We went through 8 different caves. Some you had to go on your hands and knees. Some you had to sort of rock climb and some you needed help getting up. After caving we drove to the Redoubt and had lunch, a game of tackle rugby and made a human pyramid. After that we went home for the cook out. We made nachos and the teachers came back for 4 th s, so I think ours was the best. We roasted marshmallows then went to bed. When everyone was in bed Mrs Johnson read us the myth of Lake Waikaremoana.

Friday Finally the day was here. I was glad to go, but sad as well. I had some great times there, but I guess, I’m happy to be back and see my family. This was the camp to REMEMBER!!! : )
