2. Potential Divider  e.g. Find the potential difference across each resistor in this circuit.  What is the ratio of their voltages?  How does this ratio compare to the ratio of the resistances?

3. Potential Divider  This circuit is a potential divider because it splits the total circuit voltage across multiple components.  A larger resistance gets a larger share of the voltage.  The sum of the component voltages is the total circuit voltage.

4. Variable Potential Divider  If one resistor is a variable resistor, the voltage across the other can be controlled.
