9 The Kentucky systemwide standards of college readiness are the following ACT scores.  18 for English  20 for reading  19 for some introductory courses in mathematics (often statistics or an applied mathematics course)  22 for college algebra  27 for calculus  The Kentucky systemwide standards of readiness guarantee students access to credit-bearing coursework without the need for developmental education or supplemental courses. 10  Preparation  According to the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE), career readiness includes: core academic skills employability skills and technical, job-specific skills DRAFT KDE:OTL:CP:AP April 1, 2010

11 Academic and career interest standards-based learning experiences (to include four (4) standards-based learning experiences in an academic or career interest based on the student's Individual Learning Plan; and demonstrated performance- based competency in technology.)

12 Essential for graduating more students and graduating them ready for work, advanced training and college. Technical skills coursework can be joined with a college- ready academic core in a way that integrates heads-on and hands-on learning to allow more students to succeed in a rigorous program of study. Students may earn dual credit and entry-level industry certifications which encourages them to continue their learning.

13  It must be intellectually demanding and have academic content purposefully embedded into the curriculum.  It is most effective when designed to prepare students for a double purpose — work and further study — and when held accountable for results.
