Calibration: Assess and correct for the major sources of variation in multi-site fMRI studies Cognitive Tasks: Develop robust protocols suitable for multi-site fMRI studies Analysis: Develop methods to analyze multi-site fMRI data Tools: Develop a scalable IT application toolkit to support multi-site fMRI studies Dissemination: Make the tools, procedures, and collected datasets widely available

4 Reports from sites so far  UCI: 1 HV; 1 hr 45 min scan time for the full protocol not including training/set-up; subject complained about length  UCSF: 2 HV; no ASL; scan time 2 hr 10 min on first subject  UMN: 1 HV + 2 SZ; 2+ hrs without running the full protocol  UNM/MIND: 2 HV; 2+ hrs for the full protocol; subjects complained about length  Iowa: 2 HV; 1.25 hrs without ASL, auditory oddball, or DTI; subjects complained about length  Duke: 3 HV; scan time 2+ hours not including ASL  UCLA: 1 HV, scan time 1:45 like UCI; subject complained of length

7 What to do?  We need to trim at least 10-15 minutes of scan time.  The structurals and new task alone take a full hour.  Drop the old task and DTI?  Do we need 50 minutes of new task?

8 Structure of the discussion  Present analyses on the current task data  Discuss options for reducing the protocol Drop runs of the new task Drop conditions in the new task Change the resting state scan time Drop Phase II repeated task and/or DTI
