Prevent Duty: Measures to support people at risk of being drawn into radicalisation Creating a general duty on a range of organisations to have due regard to the need to prevent people being drawn into terrorism. Putting the voluntary programme for people at risk of radicalisation on a statutory basis.

8 Prevent Duty What is Extremism
The government has defined extremism as: “vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. We also include in our definition of extremism calls for the death of members of our armed forces”.

A number of specified authorities are required to fulfil the duty: Local Authorities Police Prison/Probation Schools Health Further and Higher Education

SAFEGUARDING Training: Non-alarmist Real case studies Common sense/professional judgement Shared decision-making

12 Channel Process Identifying individuals who may be at risk of and vulnerable to being drawn into terrorism Assessing the nature and extent of the risk Where necessary, referring cases to a multi agency panel for development of the most appropriate support package to divert and support the individual at risk.

13 Rewind UK Key Achievements
The project has informed approaches to tackling racism and extremism within educational contexts.Excellent rapport between Rewind trainers and trainees/students.The creation of a safe environment by Rewind trainers in which taboos and challenging topics can be explored.The facilitation of information sharing and networking between schools that occurred during the training-the-trainer course. Areas for Improvement Using up-to-date case studies, materials and topics (e.g. digital literacy).Examining the ways in which the information is delivered to students (e.g. more active learning strategies).Spending more time on the ways in students are prepared to deliver peer-education activities.Rethinking the ways in which students are selected for the training.
