Steering committee Mechanics 29/07/2015

29-07-2015 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef 2 DU-1 pictures at CPPM

29-07-2015 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef 3 NCR to be filled out, rejection was not needed. DU-1 pictures at CPPM

29-07-20154 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef Lom loading at CPPM - DCR friction clips. Apart from the DCR for one of the clips all the parts worked fine during the loading. The friction of this clip seemed to be rather light and is therefore newly designed, several prototypes arrived. The friction of this part on the Veoc went from approximately 6 in the past to 12 N, and on the rope from 3 to 6 N (for the 6.35 mm tube).

29-07-20155 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef Picture on the left; as mounted on the Veoc’s we now started to use for DU-2, fibers brake when pushed in this cap. (2 DOM’s with broken fibers). DU-1 had 8 mm Beoc’s. Right picture; extra hole drilled on the topside with a guiding tool, up to now not (much) better, experiments started Yesterday morning. DU-2 Connection of 12 Dom’s to the Veoc started, 3 Dom’s are connected successfully, 2 Dom’s had their penetrator-fiber broken.

29-07-20156 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef Base solution is exchanging these together with a 7mm Beoc and cap (parts ordered) -step 1, remove the old Beoc from the Bob (sawing) -step 2, weld the new cap to the new 7 mm Beoc -step 3, weld a PE bush on the other side of the new Beoc -step 4, weld this assembly with “mirrorwelding” * (so “face to face”, not radial) to the Bob. At the earliest ready at 23-08 DU-2 3/4 2 1

29-07-20157 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef Dom-support system. 78 new collars Bob-clamps, end-covers and enforcement platesarrived, fit and look good, all other DU-parts will be ordered coming week (planned for 5 DU’s ) / clips will be ordered for only for one more DU. (delivery within a week if necessary) (action point) A simple test on the collar to measure the maximum sideward force will be done.

29-07-20158 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef C-version PMT-supports; 72 sets are ordered, 50 sets arrived, just one Quarter was on the edge of rejecting, all others where ok (but can be rejected later, it’s quite impossible to check all details), it still looks like 6 sets a week/15 DU’s a year without putting pressure on it. Pour statistics on leak tightness, just 2-3 used up to now (ok). Pave penetrators; 17 Pave-penetrators pressure-tested at 380 bars, one leaked. After 4 hours it was still ok, but after the weekend it slightly leaked. To be cut open or send to Pave (not yet decided) Action: contact Pave to see if we can make fibre tray more convenient for transportation. (not done yet)

29-07-20159 KM3NeT steering committee Edward Berbee - nikhef To be done shortly; Send a sea-container to Naples with a rotator, Lom and a Veoc with 12 connected Dom’s (Dom-2) Send a Lom to CPPM Visit CPPM once more for replacing one of the clip types (as in the DCR) and look at the rope-anchor connection, the Lom-fixation and the “first two meter unrolling” The so called pbs on google-drive will be changed, the pbs numbering will be removed.
