1 FEBRUARY 25 AND MARCH 2

2 BELL RINGER Evaluate the SOL papers against the Composition/Written Expression rubric. How do you think the papers scored? What did the student do well? What needs to be improved? Make notes on the paper. Score it 1 – 4 with 4 being the best score. How well do you think you will do? What do you need to work on? Organization? Sentence structure? Strong thesis? Strong examples and explanation? Counter argument? Interesting intro? Complex conclusion?

3 LAST SENTENCE CUT OFF learning environment that is ideal to a classroom setting, so it is best if students were to keep their cell phones away from school.

4 LOOK CAREFULLY AT AND BE ABLE TO POINT THESE THINGS OUT: Does the writer have a strong thesis? Does the writer take a position? Does the writer connect with his/her audience effectively? Is the counterclaim addressed? Does the writer draw strong conclusions? Does the writer support those conclusions with specific and relevant details and evidence? Does the writer stay on topic? Does the writer use transitions to move the ideas within and between paragraphs? Does the writer use highly specific word choices and avoid wordiness? Is the tone consistent?
