3 Are you a person of Integrity? Are you...  respectful?  responsible?  trustworthy?  dependable?  someone who people can count on?

4 What is Integrity? You are a person with integrity if...  You are honest with yourself and others.  You act the way you believe and not how others believe.  You do what you believe is the right thing even if it is difficult or unpopular.  You don’t give in to your friends when they want you to do something you believe is wrong.

5 Integrity at School might look like... Following classroom rules and the school’s code of conduct Respecting school property Walking safely in the hallway Following bus safety rules

6 Integrity at School looks like.... Participating responsibly in class Showing respect to others Helping others

7 Integrity at Home Might Look Like... Respecting the members and rules in your family Being reliable with your family responsibilities Telling the truth even though it may be difficult to do

8 Personal Integrity Looks Like... Doing the right thing and standing up for what you believe in ~ even if it’s not popular

9 Personal Integrity is... The ability to restrain or stop yourself from doing things even in tempting situations. Because you know that it’s the right thing to do.

10 Personal Integrity is... Admitting when you make a mistake instead of trying to make excuses.

11 Trustworthiness A person with integrity is trustworthy which means you...  Keep your promises to family, friends, teachers and others

12 You are trustworthy when... You can be counted on to tell the truth.

13 People of Integrity The people on the following slides all stood up for what they believed in. They have all been recognized with awards for their contributions to the betterment of society. Some of them paid a dear price for their beliefs.

15 Craig Kielburger At the age of 12, Craig Kielburger founded the organization Free the Children in response to a newspaper article he had read about child slave labour.

16 Craig and Marc Kielburger Today Craig and Marc Kielburger are dedicated activists for children’s rights. They have opened over 100 schools around the world for enslaved children.

17 Herb Carnegie When Herb Carnegie was denied an opportunity to play professional hockey because of his skin colour, he rose above this adversity and started the Future Aces program to help young people build leadership skills.

18 Dr. David Suzuki Dr. David Suzuki is an award winning scientist and environmentalist. The preservation of the environment for future generations is his top priority.

19 Rick Hanson Rick Hanson from Canada is known as the “Man in Motion”. In 1985, he wheelchaired around the globe to raise awareness about the potential of people with disabilities.

20 Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Irene Palby, Louise McKinney & Henrietta Muir-Edwards In 1929, the woman of Canada did not have equal rights with men because under the law, women were not considered “persons”. These 5 courageous women had this law abolished in what is known today as the “women are persons too” case.

21 Elijah Harper An Aboriginal leader best known for standing up for Aboriginal and human rights which resulted in a Humanitarian award. Today he is involved in charitable work with World Vision.

22 Nelson Mandela Nelson Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist in South Africa. He fought for equal rights and was imprisoned for 27 for his beliefs. In 1993, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

23 Mahatma Ghandi Ghandi led India to independence from Great Britain without the use of force or violence. He swore to always speak the truth and encouraged others to do so as well. “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

24 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Martin Luther King known for his “I have a dream” speech, was a civil rights activist fighting for equal rights for all. He was a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. He was assassinated in 1968.
