2 Emissivity Surface Emissivity is the ability of a surface to emit electromagnetic radiation For Float Glass, Emissivity = 0.9 For Aluminium, Emissivity =0.3 This means that if an IGU is constructed using Chromatics, with the foil on Surface 2 or 3, that surface will be emitting into the airspace much more efficiently than a glass surface

5 How Big is the Effect? Insulation Values 6mm Clear Float U = 5.7 W/m²K 6mm Chromatics U = 4.1 W/m²K Conventional Argon filled IGU U = 1.7 – 1.4W/m²K IGU with Chromatics foil to surfaces 2 & 3U = 1.7W/m²K As above, but Argon Filled U= 1.4W/m²K

6 Advantages The Chromatics unit can have insulation values similar to a gas filled unit There is no chance of deterioration over time due to gas leakage or unit failure If the units are constructed with gas filling, then the performance is even higher

7 BS EN 1279 In order to exploit the advantages of this product, each manufacturing unit will need to demonstrate compliance with BS EN 1279 to ensure durability and allow CE marking Indicative testing is currently being carried out by a third party for surface 2 (or 3) Final results expected December 2010, but present indications are very good
