1. 1 The ASDP has started to realize some remarkable outputs and outcomes. The following are some of the achievements realized so far: Improved crops production and productivity from developed irrigation infrastructure, provision of input subsidy support and farmers training on improved agricultural technologies through Farmer Field School (FFS). –For example average paddy yields increased from 2 tons per hectare to 6 tons per hectare.

2. 2 Improved delivery of support services (Research and Extension) due to provision of working gears to front line extension staff, capacity building and some new recruitments –A total of 5,846 FFS established and 131,805 farmers trained on improved farming practices. –A total of 4,057 entrepreneurship groups and 2,321 SACCOS were formed and trained –4,825 extension agents were trained in crop husbandry

3. 3 –A total of 167 irrigation schemes have been constructed and 94 schemes rehabilitated –A total of 141 vehicles, 1,419 motorcycles, 3,222 bicycles –A total of 129 charcoal dams have been constructed and 50 rehabilitated –A total of 87 and 34 crops and livestock market have been constructed respectively.

4. 4 Increase of income and improved standard of living for the rural farmers in the irrigated areas, example Mbeya Zone (Igomelo scheme-Mbeya Rural), (Madibira scheme -Mbarali). – income accruing from paddy per hectare increased from Tshs.520,000/= before irrigation interventions to 1,500,000/= after the improved interventions. –Improved livelihood including construction of better houses in the scheme areas. Increased farmers income and quality of the crop through warehouse receipt system in cashew growing areas. –The quality of the crop reaching the market improved by over 95%

5. 5 Weak accountability, weak implementation of approved work plan by LGAs and low technical capacity resulting into:- –Delays in implementation of planned activities at LGAs (carry over funds) –Poor quality of constructed infrastructures (eg irrigation, Dips, charcoal dams etc) –Thinly distribution of resources to many villages due to absence of village phased plan Low private sector participation in agriculture
