3 What is CAM to you? Discussion:
In this discussion draw on the experience that the audience may or may not have had. Keep it an open dialytic, if not taker try naming the more common types of CAM and see how the audience replies to using them. Try not to spend more than 3-5 minutes here unless the class is small and then it might be advisable to let everyone share their experience if they have had one.

4 What is the difference between Complementary and Alternative?
Complementary practices are those that work in conjunction with standard Western Medicine. This could be anything from massage therapy to Traditional Chinese Medicine, but it is always good practice to inform your doctor of your complementary treatment. Alternative practices are those that take the place of standard Western Medicine. When choosing to utilize alternative practices, you should always make sure you find the discipline and practitioner that is right for you. Check reviews, background and certifications prior to use.

7 History of CAM Classical Chinese Medicine such herbs, meditation, and other CAM root practices can trace their origins back through at least 2500 years of Chinese history to the middle of the Zhou dynasty (1122 – 221 BCE) and beyond that to the time of the legendary Yellow Emperor, Haung Di. Ayurveda or ayurvedic medicine, is a system of traditional Hindu medicine, has more than 5,000 years of history, now re-emerging as texts become increasingly accessible in modern English translations. Each culture in some fashion or another has taken local herbs and materials and developed municipal remedies for their people. Complementary medicines have evolved through history and become formalized from primitive practices; although many were developed during the 19th century as alternatives to the sometimes harmful practices of the time, such as blood-lettings and purgation.
