An Argument AGAINST Bloggers Having Journalists’ Rights Blogging != Journalism

What is Journalism?? Journalism is the occupation of writing, reporting, editing, photographing or broadcasting news or of conducting any news organization as a business.

Methods of Reporting… Journalists: *Unbiased Approach *Generally well-informed on the topic *Held in high regard by the public as a reliable source of information on their everyday life *Held to certain standards to maintain the ethical practice of all in the profession *Is permanent and, once written, cannot be altered and will be archived as originally printed Bloggers: *Highly Opinion Based *Reports are not generally first hand, but in response to what they see or hear *Not thought of as a truthful source of information *Do not have the guidelines of a journalist; can often publish what they want and engage in copyright infringement *Only accounted in weblogs and can be easily altered if necessary; there is nothing permanent about their content

What’s Technology Got to Do With It? Internet “Publication”: Because of the ease with which web pages can be altered, there is no permanence in what is written; it cannot be archived. There is also no guarantee that false information is not changed once discovered.

The BOTTOM Line… Journalists and bloggers operate in two separate fields and serve two different purposes. Bloggers have their own place in society and need not be mixed with journalists.
