1 Key Considerations for PV installations for London Federation of Housing Coops 10. November 2012 104 London Street, Reading, RG1 4SJ

C ONTENTS 1. Company Background 2. References / Past Projects 3. Considerations for Coop’s 2

1.1 C OMPANY B ACKGROUND Specialised solar photovoltaic (PV) installer and project developer based in north Germany, with subsequently opened international branches Incorporated in 1996 in Germany, followed by Canada and more recently the UK and Denmark 125 people at our head office in Germany Completed ~ 1,500 solar installations worldwide (totalling approximately 63MWp) 3

1.2 S.A.T. UK UK branch incorporated in early 2011 in Reading, Berkshire Focused team effort to address public and council tenders with focus on larger roof areas Latest addition is communal and larger solar park efforts on Recently completed several projects in UK: 30kWp Coop in Reading 12 kWp, 10kWp Schools in Wokingham and Winnersh 228kWp, Council building in Huntingdon 4

2.1 A SBESTOS R OOF – O RTS R OAD 29.6kWp system mounted on tilted roofs Substantial asbestos-handling experience Housing estate in Reading Site works duration about 12 days 5

2.2 F LAT R OOF – B ULMERSHE & F OREST S CHOOLS Forest installed capacity – 11.97kWp Bulmershe installed capacity – 10.26kWp Significant H&S considerations – site works only on weekends to prevent danger to children Project commissioned by Wokingham Borough Council 6

2.3 I NDUSTRIAL U NIT – E ASTFIELD H OUSE Installation size about 228kWp consisting of over 1000 x 195Wp Mono modules Schueco mounting used for mildly pitched roof Huntingdonshire District Council system owner Physical installation spanning about 2 weeks 7

3.0 Considerations for Coops 8 What are the key considerations for a coop? Planning Installation Commissioning Operation & Maintenance

3.1 Planning 9 Full roof 372+384=756 panels

3.1 Planning 10 Roof each edge minimum off 1m 372+384-28x2-13x2=654 panels

3.2 Installation 11 Coop buildings tend to be older May have intricate structures on flat roofs & may contain asbestos Several connection points  Full technical assessment for load bearing capacities  H&S regulations during installation crucial  Wind and snow load calculation  Grid connection and metering strategy (for larger coops) + FIT Application date  Installation size and FIT banding

3.3 Operation & Maintenance 12 Solar panels require little maintenance If there are issues they arise mostly in the first year Examples are: inverter failure generation display synchronisation G59 Unit in case of installations larger than 50 kWp Routine checks like comparison of predicted vs real production
