Bacterial STI’s By Conor Barry

STI’s Sexually Transmitted Infections These are some of the most important global health priorities because infants, and women can be seriously affected by them. There are 2 main categories of STI’s. They are Bacterial STI’s and Viral STI’s.

Gonorrhea Nickname is, “the clap” It is a bacterium that grows in regions of the body that are exposed to intercourse Cervix, uterus, urethra, and fallopian tubes are the most common locations for the bacterium to be found. Some cases of this infection have been found in the anus, eyes, mouth and throat. Moist and warm locations are the most accessible for the bacterium to grow.

Gonorrhea

Chlamydia This is spread through sexual contact In both men and women, the urethra is usually effected in this infection When cases get bad enough, this can spread to the cervix and sometimes even more reproductive organs. This is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections.

Chlamydia

Syphilis This is an infection that is spread from person to person contact. The most common person to person contact is from syphilis sores. These sores can be found in or on the mouth, vagina, anus, and rectum. These sores can be passed from a mother to a child if the mother has these sores when she gives birth. Rumor has it that syphilis can be spread by toilet seats, doorknobs, swimming pools, hot tubs, bathtubs, shared clothing, and eating utensils. These rumors are all incorrect. This infection cannot be spread by any of these forms of transmission.

Syphilis

Bacterial Vaginosis This is an infection where bad bacteria spawns and it begins to take over the good bacteria inside the vagina. This infection is usually accompanied by itching, burning, vaginal discharge, and occasionally and odor.

Bacterial Vaginosis

Nongonoccocal Urethritis This is an infection of the Urethra. More specifically an inflammation of the Urethra An inflammation is a response of body tissues to injury or irritation; characterized by pain and swelling and redness and heat The Urethra, which, “is a tube which connects the urinary bladder to the outside of the body. The urethra has an excretory function in both sexes to pass urine to the outside, and also a reproductive function in the male, as a passage for semen,” gets inflamed, and makes it painful to pass urine.

Nongonoccocal Urethritis

Mycoplasma Genitalia Small parasite that gets into the reproductive tract, and then lives there This parasite, as of now, has no known role. Meaning that doctors and scientist don’t specifically know what exactly it is in the reproductive tract to do. This is mainly passed from person to person by unprotected sex.

Mycoplasma Genitalia

Chancroid This is an infection that consists of sores that are found on your genitalia These sores are usually excruciatingly painful Like most other sexually transmitted infections, it is passed from sexual contact. This disease is usually found in countries that are developing, and have sex workers working commercially inside that country.
