BIM Guides & bSDD Puzzling out a Strategy

Goals 1.Use the bSDD as the source for terminology 2.Use the bSDD to harmonize terms; enable synonyms without losing meaning (SM: by using “contexts”) 3.Use the bSDD to add semantics 1.By adding relationships between terms – in both directions

Lingo Map Hierarchy Relationship Context Term Concept Documents Table of Contents (ToCs) Keywords bSDD BIM Guides

Tricks “wild card” > singap* -- Why can’t it be a search like Google? SM: Singapour cannot be fetched by searching for *ingap* though. Do we need “full text” research?

Open API for our own interface API = WDSL (open web standard) interface; source code is open source SM : The bsDD code is not open source (Catenda priced the source code at 200k€). Is the API free to use? Examples: bSDD web browsing/editing interface Ref: Phil MacNeil (OZ/NZ) Ref: Steen’s ‘Table Tool’ To have bSDD access within the BIM Guides interface (seamless) Access to API real-time via URL; display XML data results

Steps to enter a term into bSDD (SM: Provided that the account has the proper credentials) 1.Terms can be entered via API, or via web-based Content Manager 2.Adding terms entered via Content Manager: 1.Define concept type (subject, property, actor, etc) 2.Enter term (provide name + description in native language and International English for translation purposes) 3.Create relevant relationship(s): 1.Classify the term (classification) 2.Provide relevant properties (or property sets – nests of properties) 3.Connect to sub-types or super-types (specialization) 4.Add components (composition)

In the test database… Using the “Singapore BIM Guide – Version 1.0” and their definition of “Building Information Modelling” as the test case, I tried both paths of adding duplicate info to an existing concept and creating the entry as a separate concept.

First of all, there is no language choice for Singapore English. Not sure what the standard is for the list that’s available, or what the unwritten rule is for Singapore, but created a problem when I chose International English as it caused the term to repeat itself (see below), and if I chose British English then it seemed to me misleading?

Had trouble deleting the British English test – Why? I don’t see how (yet) to use this as a method to harmonize terms (with transparency)? Can only relate definition with a single document. How to show two different definitions of the same term preserving the reference to the source document?

Concept type options > Am I considering the right ones?

I test adding a relationship from the document to the definition.

I can add a relationship but it doesn’t seem to take? Maybe I still don’t have all the right rights in my profile? I test adding a relationship from the definition to the document.

Does the “BIM Guides Project” get created as a Context Filter? Compared to “a bag”???
