MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS I. WHAT YOU DON’T WANT TO BE LIKE. (Verse 18) “Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, ‘How is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?’”

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS When you fall for this type of religion then get ready, your religion will be a solemn, joyless affair because the Holy Spirit has nothing to do with it! God is upset when His intended purpose for our lives is distorted by man and it’s done in His name.

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS 1 Chronicles 16:27-“Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and joy in his dwelling place.” Psalm 28:7-“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS Psalm 94:19-“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul. Psalm 126:2-“Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, "The Lord has done great things for them."

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse.

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins.’”

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS John 17:13-“but now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.” John 15:11- “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS Acts 13:52 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS McLaren, in The Biblical Illustrator, has it right, “The only cheerful Christianity is a Christianity that draws its gladness from a deep personal experience of communion with Jesus Christ.”

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS So what does Jesus desire today? -Love Jesus and find our joy in Him. -Live each day in Christ’s joy for we never know what tomorrow holds. -Open our ears, eyes, hearts and minds to the joys around us every day.

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS So what does Jesus desire today? -Live a life of passionate joy that flows from Jesus. -Rejoice in our overflowing abundance. -Learn the joy that is found only in giving!

MARK’S GOSPEL ABOUT JESUS Jesus didn’t come to reform; He came to transform.
