1/6/12 Objective: What factors influence typical inheritance? Do Now: -Take out Cyclops problem

Incomplete Dominance -In some characteristics, neither allele is dominant -A mixture of the two alleles is produced

Try This Flower color is an example of incomplete dominance in roses. You are crossing a red rose with a white rose. What will the results of the F1 generation be? Show your results and then do a cross of the offspring from the F1 generation and give the phenotypic and genotypic ratios of the F2 generation.

Multiple Alleles -More than one allele controls a trait (ex: blood type) -Blood types: A, B, AB, or O -Symbolized by I A, I B, i (for neither A nor B) Phenotype (Blood Type) Genotypes 0ii AI A I A or I A i BI B I B or I B i ABIAIBIAIB Allele i is recessive

Codominance -A heterozygote expresses BOTH traits (ex: I A I B = Blood type AB) - Phenotype (Blood Type) Genotypes 0ii AI A I A or I A i BI B I B or I B i ABIAIBIAIB Allele i is recessive

Polygenic Inheritance -When two or more genes affect a single trait (ex: skin color, eye color)

Turn and Talk A woman homozygous for type B blood marries a man who is heterozygous type A. What will be the possible genotypes and phenotypes or their children?

Influence of the Environment -Ex: exercise on weight, amount of sun on skin color
