Neasan O’Neill GridPP

The LHC is massive

Lots of bits Scientists and engineers have built all the individual components all over the world and it is all being put together at CERN

Testing the LHC So that we know how all of these things will work together we need to use computers to test how they will work together For this we need lots of computers

So where will we get them? You!

So what are we doing? LHC@home has helped in the building and planning of the LHC by helping with some of the engineering questions It is also being used to allow the scientists to understand what the LHC might tell them

The magnets These will bend the particle beams around the LHC and then make them collide together SixTrack helped design the large magnets that are now in place and is now working on the effect the smaller magnets will have during LHC being turned on

Simulating part of the detectors The Drift Chamber will tell us where some particles will go/what they become Garfield will help us know how to read the information from them

How to get involved Download BOINC Attach to project http://lhcathome.cern.ch http://lhcathome.cern.ch And that is it
