13  Economics is about choices- More than 1.5 million families filed for personal bankruptcy last year. 45% of college students are in credit card debt, with the average credit card debt being more than $3,000.  Economic education is essential for informed and active citizenship- 40 million Americans are “unbanked.”  Economics is about personal finance- More than half of American families live from paycheck to paycheck. Economic education addresses financial illiteracy
