The Mediterranean Forecasting System @ INGV-Bologna

MFS systems: The CMEMS Med-MFC and the RITMARE system High resolution atmospheric forcing COSMO-ME (from USAM) Forced with ECMWF atmospheric forcings @1/8 o resolution

MFS systems: the components Hydrodynamic Model Wave Model Assimilation Scheme 3DVAR Applications Collection and organization of observations R&D model components Development and maintenance of the production chain and products dissemination Develpment of Applications MFS has a horizontal resolution of 1/16° x 1/16° and 71 z levels (partial steps) Detailed description of the system on Copernicus catalogue (http://marine.copernicus.eu/) Product Quality Evaluation

The Mediterranean Monitoring and Forecasting Centre (Med-MFC) of Copernicus Marine Service (CMEMS) 2 products Analyses and Forecast (MEDSEA_ANALYSIS_FORECAST_PHYS_006_001) 6 variables (Potential Temperature, Salinity, Currents, SSH, 2D Stokes Drift Velocity, Wavenumber) Res: 1/16̂°, 72 vertical levels Daily and hourly fields Reanalyses (1987-2013) (MEDSEA_REANALYSIS_PHY_006_009) 4 variables (Potential Temperature, Salinity, Currents, SSH) Res: 1/16̂°, 72 vertical levels Daily and Monthly means http://marine.copernicus.eu/

ANALYSIS: Each Tuesday  simulation for the previous 2 weeks atmo. forcing: analysis produced by ECMWF + assimilation correction: satellite data (SLA) + in situ data (XBT, CTD and ARGO) HINDCAST: Every day the initial condition for the forecast cycle are generated by a model simulation for the previous 24hr hours and forced by ECMWF analysis fields FORECAST: Computed for next 10 days forcing the numerical model with ECMWF forecast fields Med-MFC Med currents: the production chain in CMEMS
