2 Mission First… Sailors Always 2 CURRENT ACTIVITIES Apr-Aug 2003 Deployment/Mobilization Activities -23,100 sessions; 220,500 service contacts »Return and Reunion briefs highest in May »Requests for counseling for families and children peaked in July »Ombudsman training, consultation and supportive services remains constant as FFSC supported Navy’s front-line family support volunteers

3 Mission First… Sailors Always 3 SUCCESS STORIES Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSCs) met all Fleet requests for Return & Reunion (R/R) Teams »R/R briefs for 18K Sailors peaked in May 03 due to significant returns from extended deployments Individual, marital and family counseling services provided at FFSCs as priority for returning Sailors and family members »Requests for counseling for families and children have remained both strong and constant »Requests for counseling peaked in Mar 03 with another major increase in Jul 03 following ship returns

4 Mission First… Sailors Always 4 PREPARING THE FAMILIES Continuing on the Home Front -Homecoming/R&R activities/briefings for Family Support Groups »Ombudsman Consultation »Support to Family Support Groups -Follow-on FFSC services »New initiatives and prevention services

5 Mission First… Sailors Always 5 CHALLENGES and LESSONS LEARNED Significant Challenges met -Managed surge in demand for all deployment related services (including R/R) within existing budgets -Met increased demand for all other FFSC services within existing budgets Lessons learned -Provide teacher, school counselor and student briefs on war time deployment & military families -Increased demand for Ombudsmen training and special briefs as the critical link between war time deployed commands & families at home

6 Mission First… Sailors Always 6 MOBILIZED RESERVISTS SUPPORT FFSC briefs at Navy Mobilization Processing Sites (NMPS) -Mobilization -Demobilization Reserve and Reserve Family Support -FFSCs -Web Sites Reserve Ombudsman Support
