2 Mission Statement n The mission of the Department of Teacher Education is to develop creative and reflective practitioners capable of assuming leadership roles within culturally diverse educational settings in a rapidly changing world.

3 Reflective Practitioners n To BE one you must BECOME one… Think about it… educators – practitioners – must constantly reflect. Look inward, look outward, think about it, talk about it, question the status quo… What worked? What didn’t work? Why? Why not? What next…?

4 A Reflective Practitioner: n Recognizes that he is a work-in- progress n Recognizes that she can and will change her mind n Recognizes the value of lifelong learning

5 Department Goals are for candidates to become: n Reflective Practitioners n Collaborative Instructional Leaders n Responders to Diversity, and n Facilitative Change Agents This is consistent with our mission statement: The mission of the Department of Teacher Education is to develop creative and reflective practitioners capable of assuming leadership roles within culturally diverse educational settings in a rapidly changing world. 6 So, how do we reach these 4 goals? n Your road map, or guide, to reaching these goals, is found in the 12 Florida Educator Accomplished Practices. By developing the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to positively impact student learning you will reach these goals.

8 In class and in the field… n …you will have the opportunity to learn about the 12 Florida Educator Accomplished Practices and develop your proficiency in their application. As you develop the knowledge and skills to apply in classroom settings, your disposition towards teaching will develop. All of this will impact your students’ learning.
