Chapter 2.5 McDougal Littell Middle School Math Course 1 Joseph Williams Melvin E. Sine Elementary Jwilliams@gesd40.org Objective: Display data using bar graphs.

Vocabulary Bar Graph – p. 79 - a graph in which the lengths of bars are used to represent and compare data. Double Bar Graph – p. 80 - a bar graph that shows two sets of data on the same graph.

Reading a Bar Graph There are 90 quarters in the vending machine.

Making a Bar Graph The table shows the prices of menu items at a local restaurant. Choose a scale for a bar graph of the data. The largest data value is 15. So, start the scale at 0 and extend it to a value greater than 15, such as 20. Use increments of 5.

Making a Double Bar Graph First draw one set of bars using the first data. Make sure you leave room for the second set of bars. Next draw the second bars. Shade them a different color. Add labels: a title and key.

Favorite Zoo Animals Excel Chart

Favorite Ice Cream Think of your favorite ice cream out of these three choices: strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla. We will collect data from the class, then make a double bar graph of this data. We will also make a bar graph using Excel software and check to see if it looks like our graph.
