3 stages of Initial Interactions 1. Entry Phase -physical appearance cues -controlled by comm rules and norms 2. Personal Phase -more free comm -attitudes, beliefs, values shared 3. Exit Phase -future interaction decided -relationship negotiation

What motivates us to gain knowledge of others? Incentive - who can provide rewards? High incentive value Unpredictable behavior ulterior motives Interaction in the future more self-disclosure (stranger on plane scenario) more favorable impression
