1 Consider a Language Minor You are already on your way!

2  Another language enables you to work, live and travel in another country.  Many career choices are only open to you if you have another language.  For many graduate programs, a second language is required. 3  The study of languages unlocks new worlds of literature and culture.  Learning a language sparks your creativity! Finish what you started! A minor in a language complements any major and will stand out on your transcript. It will make you competitive internationally, since students outside of North America usually have more than one language.

4 Minors are available in: German Studies Hispanic Studies Italian Indigenous Studies Spanish and Latin American Studies World Language Studies Linguistics  Find detailed descriptions for all Plans on the LLCU website under “Academics.”

5 Minor in Hispanic Studies Consists of 30.0 units “Graduating with a minor in Spanish will provide many opportunities for research collaboration in Spanish-speaking countries” Courtenay Jacklin, Biology and Spanish

6 In year one you take:  SPAN P10/3.0 Beginning Spanish I and  SPAN 112/3.0 Beginning Spanish II In year two you take:  SPAN 204/3.0 Español intermedio and  SPAN 205/3.0 Español avanzado and  SPAN 206/3.0 Spanish Conversation and Culture

7 In year three you take:  SPAN 301/3.0 Gramática avanzada y composición I and  SPAN 302/3.0 Gramática avanzada y composición II  You can subsitute these courses with SPAN 303/3.0 Español para contextos profesionales I and SPAN 304/3.0 Español para contextos profesionales II

8 In year four you take TWO of the following literary survey courses:  SPAN 351/3.0 Panorama literario latinoaméricano I or  SPAN 352/3.0; Panorama literario latinoaméricano II or  SPAN 380/3.0; Panorama literario de España I or  SPAN 381/3.0 Panorama literario de España II

9 During any one of the four years of your program, you can take ONE of the optional courses (in English):  LLCU 200/3.0 Semiotics: Interpreting the World.  LLCU 201/3.0 Introduction to Romance Philology  LLCU 247/3.0 The Dynamic History of Spain  LLCU 248/3.0 Spanish American Cultural Contexts  LLCU 301/3.0 Oral Tradition and Innovation in Cultural Transmission.  LLCU 249/3.0 Latin Lovers. Sex and Popular Culture.  LLCU 244/3.0 Hips don’t lie. Music and Culture in Latin America.
