Project Objective Determine the most suitable locations for a nuclear power plant in southeastern Washington based on a set of criteria in a GIS work environment.

Site Selection Criteria The power plant must be located within the south east quadrant of Washington state The power plant must be located within 5 miles of a river The power plant must not be located in areas prone to tsunamis The power plant must not be located in floodplains The power plant cannot be located within 15 miles of any populated area data The power plant cannot be located in landslide areas The power plant must not be located in areas prone to strong ground accelerations due to earthquakes The power plant must be located within 5 miles of adequate road and railroad network The power plant must be located within 5 miles of existing power grid

Results 3 Sites selected for further study All meet required safety criteria All meet supplemental access requirements All meet tertiary cost reduction criteria Further study including Environmental Impact Assessment, archaeological investigation, plant construction requirements, excess BPA transmission grid capacity, and potential decommissioning difficulties would be needed to select final site.
