3
The Problem Getting a 3D representation of real live objects (possibly people) into the computer 3D scanners are expensive Useful in many situations but difficult to accomplish in a cheap way
4
Who would use it? Scientists, Doctors, Engineers… Many scientific and industrial purposes Making a 3D model of a prototype 3D model of organs Creating a 3D image of an object to use in a video game or a movie 3D models of machine parts And many more…
5
How we plan to do it! By using Microsoft Kinect Using the depth camera we can get a distance matrix (point cloud) from the Kinect to the object Moving the Kinect on a frame to capture all the details of the object The 3D data can then be used in a 3D program, i.e. Processing or OpenGL
6
How much will it cost? A rough estimation of cost Xbox Kinect (borrowed) Scanner frame Motors Arduino We estimate this will not exceed 10.000kr
7
How long will it take? Timeframe of 3 ½ weeks Creating the Scanner frame = 1 ½ week Programming = 1 ½ week Report = ½ week
8
Has anyone else done something similar? Professional solutions are available Kinect has been used for similar purposes but mostly in personal projects
