The Pilgrim Fathers and the first Thanksgiving Day
2
Who were the Pilgrim Fathers? They were a group of settlers from the UK that escaped religious persecutions. They went to the East Coast of North America to find work and an opportunity to live freely.
3
In 1620 they left England in a ship called the Mayflower and after three months they arrived in their new home and found a new Colony.
4
The first months in the new country were very difficult: it was winter, they didn’t know how to build houses or cultivate the land, so half of them died.
5
Fortunately, they met the Natives that helped them to survive teaching them their farming methods.
6
In autumn 1621, 51 Pilgrims and 90 Natives celebrated the First Thanksgiving : they wanted to thank the Natives for their help during the first difficult months.
