2. WHAT IS BIOLOGY? Biology is the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy.

4. BRANCHES OF BIOLOGY Zoology: the study of animals Botany: the study of plants Ichthyology: the study of fish Microbiology: the study of microscopic organisms

5. CHARACTERISTICS OF LIFE The study of life ranges from the very simple single celled organisms to the extremely complex multicellular organisms, however all living things share the following eight (8) characteristics.
