2 Trade  Trade is the voluntary exchange of goods and services

3 What kind of trade is most beneficial?

4 Absolute Advantage  The ability to produce more units of a good or service than some other producer using the same quantity of resources

5 Comparative Advantage  The ability to produce a good or service at a lower opportunity cost than another producer.  Comparative advantage is the economic basis for specialization and trade. If individuals and countries specialize in producing the goods in which they have comparative advantage, and trade for the goods in which others have comparative advantage– both parties will be better off

6 Specialization & Trade  Countries should produce and export goods and services that they can produce at a lower opportunity cost.  Countries should export goods and services for which they have a comparative advantage.

8 Specialization & Trade  Countries should buy goods and services that they produce at a higher opportunity cost.  Countries should import goods and services for which they have a comparative disadvantage.
