True Sight  The stories of Virgil and MM

1. A Beggar beside the Road  Jericho to Jerusalem – 18 miles.  Leave the city: Bartimaeus begging beside the road At the bottom of the social order.  We know his name ! He might have become significant in early church

2. Son of David, Have Mercy on Me  Causes panic in the crowd – try to shut him up. Jesus is leading the way, but the crowd is afraid (10:32) Jesus was heading into trouble.  Most politically loaded name – “Son of David” The ultimate Messianic title. Blind Bartimaeus sees clearly. Some in the crowd might be spies...  Louis Riel – Metis leader

2. Son of David, Have Mercy on Me...  Bartimaeus’ own perception: “Son of David”  Jesus stops and calls him. “what do you want me to do for you?” “Rabbi, I want to see”

3. He followed Jesus  Jesus restores his sight.  Bartimaeus “followed Jesus along the road” (v 52)  Unlike the rich young ruler, Bartimaeus has nothing. He sits every day in the dust begging. When he is blind he can see who Jesus is When he can see he follows him. 2000 years later we all still know his name !

True Sight  Bartimaeus saw who Jesus was.  What about us? Like Virgil & MM, seeing properly requires work & the Spirit Will we know Jesus as best we can Will we follow what we know.
