3 What do we mean by “Growth”? Growth is change from point A to point B Growth is an expectation of learning Growth is a relative measure compared to like students in like conditions

4 Establish a Teacher Target Differentiate for the STUDENTS not the teachers Locate that point between 9 and 17 Determine the HEDI range

5 Caution Be clear and articulate regarding the assessments to be used and the teacher target. Be sure that the target is aligned with the assessments chosen and the data can be retrieved in a fashion that is consistent with the target Be sure that that target is aligned with district standards and it is achievable and reasonable

6 Frequently Asked Questions How can I use the previous state assessment in grade 8 to predict a Regents result?  We can do an analysis of historical students to see how they did on the two assessments

There is measurement error, consider lowering the projections by a few points (2-3) CHECK YOUR OWN DATA  This is an analysis of county wide data, there could be (but not likely to be) significant variation  Very small schools with “the best” teacher on the Island, might get different results
