Socratic Seminar Guidelines
2
Pre-Socratic Seminar Prepare at least 3-5 questions regarding the “essential question”. These questions cannot be answered with a “yes/no” answer. The questions may be derived from group work or class discussions.
3
Day of Socratic Seminar Turn to your group and share out your questions- if you hear a good one, let that person know! Everyone will choose one question to share out before we begin. Take out your questions + a blank sheet of paper.
4
During Socratic Seminar As each person in class reads their question aloud, write down 3-4 questions that you heard & would like to have discussed on your notes. You will be required to turn in these questions + answers in Cornell note form.
5
During Socratic Seminar Ask your own questions + the questions you wrote down– if you don’t, you’ll be answering them on your own! Be respectful of others- if you do not agree, say “I understand ____’s point; however…” or “I see what you’re saying but…”
6
End of Socratic Seminar/ Due the next day Cornell Note form: 3-4 questions on the left + minimum 1 paragraph answers on the right If you did NOT participate during Socratic Seminar, you are required to write a 2 paragraph reflection to make-up for lost points from not participating. If you DID participate, the reflection is 1 paragraph.
