1 Beta Alpha Psi A Proposal for Emporia State University Accounting Club

2 Why have a BAP chapter? Enhance ESU's reputation –Of the AACSB accredited schools in Kansas only ESU does not have a chapter. Many Missouri schools do too. Kansas State University Wichita State University University of Kansas Pittsburg State University –Enhanced prestige for guest speakers –Enhanced prestige for student members Employers respect membership Opportunities for students –National meetings, regional meetings –Other activities Fits with strategic plan of University –Goal 1, Objective A, Strategy 3

3 Requirements AACSB accredited school Sufficient number of qualified and interested Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems students At least one BAP faculty member Support of faculty, department chair and Dean Active petitioning chapter for 3 semesters Fees

4 Qualification Requirements At least 10 students who –Are undergraduates with Declared major in accounting, finance or information systems. Completed two years of courses Have completed at least one upper level course beyond business core GPAs of –3.0 in major or –Cumulative 3.0 or –Rank within top 35% of university class or –Attained at least a 3.25 on most recent 30 hours –Degree seeking graduate students with concentration in accounting, finance or IS –Faculty in Accounting, Finance, or IS

5 Faculty Advisor Requirements Faculty member who is –Beta Alpha Psi member or –Willing to become member –Drs. Durler, Kennett, Rich and Swanson are members. Can initiate faculty as new members Expected to attend Beta Alpha Psi annual meetings during petition period Written declaration by Dean and Dept. chair that advisor will be supported in terms of time and expectations.

6 School Support Requirements Written support of the petition from –Dean of School of Business –Department Chair Evidence that School is AACSB accredited (no problem) Report provided about acctg, finance and IS students –Number in each class (fresh, soph, etc) –Number graduating during past three yrs

7 Activity Requirements Petition must include statement of objectives and plan of activities for the first two semesters –At least 3 professional activities At least 25% of members attend 1 hour length –At least 1 service activity At least 25% of members participate At least 1 hour in length –At least 3 national/regional activities Attend annual/regional meetings Entering resumes into national database of BAP

8 Fees $1,000 with petitioning application $200 annual dues during petitioning and every year after chartered $1,000 installation fee $45 per student, faculty, or honorary member joining –Same as initiation fee for all new members

9 What about Accounting Club Whatever the students and faculty want The two clubs could co-exist –Accounting club for Freshmen and sophomores – could be considered pledges for BAP Juniors and Seniors not eligible for BAP –Joint activities Both groups participate in professional and service activities –Dual leadership Same officers for both clubs, would have to be BAP members, or Different officers with cooperation –Accounting club members that qualify automatically initiated into BAP in junior year Accounting club could continue as is and Beta Alpha Psi be operated separately.
