6 John the Baptist Add this extra explanation about your facts on John the Baptist: -He didn’t wear fashionable clothes to set himself apart from the people at the time. He also dressed similarly to the prophet Elijah. -He chose to live in the desert to stay away from distractions and hear God clearer. -To be baptised was to radically depart from your old life. -His duty was to prepare the way for Jesus.

7 Most – I can explain the symbolism in Jesus’ baptism. Annotate the key parts in the passage with the information below: This represents the Holy Spirit falling upon Jesus. In the Old Testament the voice of the spirit was likened to the voice of the turtle dove. It could also be a symbol of peace. Jesus was receiving direct divine approval from God that he was God’s beloved Son. Jesus already was God’s Son since the beginning, but this confirms it for us. This happened to show God is breaking out upon us: God’s Kingdom is arriving.
