Answer the Monday Question on your Bellwork Sheet. BELLWORK 11-16-15

0707.1.2 and 0707.1.3 Can I summarize how the different levels of organization are integrated within living systems? Can I explain the basic functions of a major organ system? How do different organ systems enable a complex multicellular organism to survive? Students will be able to analyze how plant and animal cells are organized to carry on the processes of life?

Long-Term Project Rubric Your story will be due on Monday, December 7. Grading will follow the descriptions on the rubric. We will work on the story each day, adding a new human body system every day. Step 3 Add to your story each day Step 2 Learn about a human body system Step 1 Read Rubric

“Magic School Bus” Storyline Expectations  You will need an introduction, conclusion, and transitions.  You will write at least one paragraph per human body system.  You need enough characters in your story to allow for substantial dialogue.  You may create your own characters and plot line or copy that of the actual Magic School Bus show.  You may choose whether you write from first- or third-person perspective.  You must describe what you would see “inside” each body system.

Notes format and Diagram HOW EACH PAGE SHOULD LOOK WHEN YOU FINISH SETTING UP THE PAGE, CUT OUT THE SKELETAL SYSTEM AND LABEL THESE ORGANS

Skeletal System Arch your back like a cat and feel the bumps that appear on your back. What are those bumps? Feel your wrist and notice the big bump that on the same side of your hand as your pinky. What is that big bump?

The Skeletal System Bones, cartilage, and the connective tissue that holds bones together make up the skeletal system. Functions of the skeleton: Protection Storage (minerals and fats) Movement Blood cell formation

Joints A place where two or more bones meet is called a joint. Three Joints: Gliding Joint = hand & wrist Ball-and-Socket Joint = shoulder Hinge Joint = knee Joints are held together by ligaments. Ligaments are strong elastic bands of connective tissue.

Human Body Systems Chart Function: Your bones provide a frame to support and protect your body parts. Major Organs: Skull, Clavicle (collar bone), humerus (upper arm bone), femur (thigh bone) Ways it works with other systems: provides protection for the circulatory system and digestive systems; makes red blood cells for the circulatory system. Works with muscular system to allow movement

Skeletal System Story Your paragraph about the skeletal system must include AT LEAST three of the major bones we discussed in your Human Body Systems Chart. Use the bottom part of your notes page to brain storm idea, but the your actual writing needs to be on a separate sheet of notebook paper. You will keep up with this paper and add to it tomorrow when we write about the muscular system.

Exit Ticket On your chart, brainstorm ideas for your story and journal your story’s beginning and the skeletal system. Use your rubric as a guide. Don’t forget to include the function and major organs your characters will see on their journey.
