Anyone who races a Ford or owns a Ford Mustang should be aware of Bob Tasca, Senior. Way back in the 60’s, He was an NHRA innovator and prominent Ford dealer and he started a race program out of his dealership (Tasca Ford) in East Providence, Rhode Island. It all started in 1961, with a full size Ford Galaxie - Bill Lawton's Tasca Galaxie turned the best performance, with a 12.50 pass at 116.60 mph (187.65 km/h) 1. Later in 1963, he was one of the first to race a Fairlane with a big block. Then in 1964, he raced one of the Iconic Ford Thunder Bolts on the race scene. The Mustang AFX National Champion came later. Other cars were the prelude to the Funny car the “Mystery series” (a factory experimental) and a bunch of Funny cars. He had a 1969 Mustang Super Boss 429 2 it was one of the most unique Mustang street cars. He put a bounty on it of $1,000 to see if anyone could beat him with street tires and closed exhaust. There were a lot of people who tried to collect, but he never lost. He was very helpful with getting Carroll Shelby and Ford together to create the Cobra and Mustang GTs. He also created the 428 Cobra Jet. During the 50s and 60s, Tasca became one of Henry Ford II most trusted advisors, traveling the world consulting Ford on production quality, performance, engineering and marketing. Every time I see a high performance Mustang or a GT350, I remember Bob Tasca. I was privileged to know Mr. Tasca and lucky enough to work on some of his race cars. Mr. Tasca was inducted into the Super Stock Hall of Fame in 1993 and the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2003. Mr. Tasca passed away on January 8, 2010. His sons, Bob Jr and Carl and his grandson Bob Tasca III have carried on his legacy in racing. Any Ford high performance owner should be grateful for Bob Tasca Senior. 2 B LOGGIN WITH B ILL OLD IRON NEWS 2014-2016 OLD IRON 2 Bob Tasca, Senior… Keep Them Rolling! Cruizin’ with Mac & Molly Support our local Businesses OLD IRON NEWS 2014-2016 OLD IRON 4 Hi, Cruizin’ Fans! Well, another year at the Barrett-Jackson Auctions. What a Blast! We enjoyed great weather and great cars in Arizona. What else could you ask for? Molly and I cruised up to Scottsdale and had lots of fun looking at cars and talking to a lot of wonderful people from all over the USA and from foreign countries. Before we went to Scottsdale, Atlas Transmission (see Ad) serviced the transmission on the roadster. Tony did a great job! The roadster shifts really well and he installed a transmission cooler unit. Now it’s already for some cruizin’ and going to car shows in Southern Arizona! In a few weeks, Door Slammers Annual Saddle Horn Saloon Car Show/Chili Cook Off is happening! Feb. 20 2016 SATURDAY! Always have a really great time. 3 trophies for best Chili and some real Awesome Trophies for The Car Show. Get there early to get a Good Parking Spot. 9AM to 3 PM Stay hydrated and cool! Be safe! Travel safely! “Keep cruizin” Mac & Molly L IST YOUR CAR F OR $50.- Classic Photo “Henry”
