2 Hourly Precipitation Pages

3 New Hourly Precipitation page New “experimental” product that combines RFC’s gridded estimates of rain on hourly basis. ABRFC collects all data, performs mosaic, then sends data to SR servers, and AHPS Follows in mold of the highly successful 24 hour national mosaic Data is biased, mosaiced, and has human QC to remove AP and bad gages. Per SR personnel, highest used NWS pages after radar data Process started in mid 2008, expanded to include 10 of 13 RFCs Short two week archive available online Data available as gifs or shape files “Experimental”, which means not nationally supported State of AK recently added to 24 hour mosaic Hourly Precipitation Analysis Pages

6 New IMPROVED Hourly Precipitation page Survey pages show that users “LOVE” the pcpn web pages, but consistently indicate the need to be able to zoom in closer. Result was ARCGIS type software which up until now, could not be supported due to hardware and bandwidth constraints. Google maps have made us re-think the way we show areal data. Ridge II is a great example ABRFC has been working with Ridge II team to hopefully implement an hourly pcpn page that allows users to zoom into street level. Data images already being created and moved to SR servers. If successful with hourly page, may translate daily page using Google maps. Much more efficient than previous method of creating hundreds of maps http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge2/RFC_Precip/precip_analysis.php
