Overpopulation of Domestic Animals Ruthli Hernandez

 Domestic Animals- cats and dogs that depend on people for their survival  Feral- when they are domestic and thrown into the wild  Euthanasia- The practice of ending the life of an individual animal, usually through the administration of a lethal injection.  Heat- when a female animal seeks a mate.  Neuter- A castration; the surgical procedure for a male animal in which the testicles are removed via a small incision.  Spay- An ovariohysterectomy; the surgical procedure for a female animal in which the ovaries and uterus are removed via abdominal surgery. (Sexton, J. & Warhol, T., 2009)

 Pet overpopulation occurs when there are more domestic cats and dogs than there are people who want them as pets  70 million stray cats alone  The offspring of a single cat can produce an average of 60,000 kittens per year, while a single dog and its offspring can produce an average of 11,000 puppies per year (Rich & Finley, 2009)

Inhumane  Euthanasia- ending a life  Circle of Life  Shouldn’t take reproducing rights away

Neutered  Cats that have been have less stress and are able to socialize easier with their surroundings while also preventing them from reproducing more offspring to our already overpopulated neighborhoods. (Finkler, H., & Terkel, J. 2010)

Negligence  has caused millions of domestic animals to become abandoned each year, which pose a threat to human health. Negligence is seen as when people are uneducated in owning them and having them breed freely. When owners are no longer able to care of their pets they abandon them to their own fate
