4 Abstrak The topic of this study is teaching listening to young learners using storytelling. The objective of this study is to know whether using stoyrtelling in teaching listening effective for the young learners. In order to achieve the objective of this study, the writer designs an action research using four steps; planning, action, observation, and reflection. The population of this study is the fifth grader of SD N 1 Rembun. The subjects were 20 students. There were five meetings during the action research. Before the action research was conducted, a pre test was given. A post test was given after the treatments were done. The test was about the story consisting of 30 multiple choice items. Before the test was used, it had been tried out. The purpose of conducting the try-out was to find out the validity of the test as an instrument. The test items had also revised before they were used as the instrument of this study. The result of this study shows that the post test scores are better than the pre test scores. It can be seen by comparing their means. The means of the pre test score is 71 while the post test score is 84. It means that there is an improvement in grade of test achieved by students after they have been taught using storytelling. In line with the result, the writer suggests that a teacher must be able to create her own way to improve her/his students’ interest in following his/her teaching. So, it is recommended that the teacher can use storytelling as one of the alternative techniques in teaching listening because there are some advantages found in it. storytelling is interesting and enjoyable that makes the students have high motivation in listening.
