Turning Research into Every Day Practice For past two years, SHRP2 research has been wrapping up and implementation gearing up Products include: –Guides –Software tools –New processes –Technologies and Tools –Testing procedures –Collaborative-decision making protocols –Driver behavior data 2

Efforts are Collaborative Implementation is cooperative. It engages: –AASHTO –FHWA –SHRP2/TRB staff States are the customers of AASHTO implementation FHWA, TRB also serve locals, academia, MPOs 3

Prioritizing States’ Needs AASHTO’s role is focused on identifying which products meet the states’ practical needs We are relying on members and committees to define how implementation can be successful 4

What Can SHRP2 Solutions Do For You? Use new assessment tools and processes to understand – and respond to – risk. Better plan for and predict travel-times on busy roadways. Manage complex projects – of all sizes and complexity – with next generation strategies. Deliver a quality product using model performance specifications. 5

AASHTO Implementation Task Force ITF Meeting, March 28-29 - 28 State DOTs met to review products for next round of implementation plan Survey of AASHTO Committees to gauge value of potential new products 11 meetings of Focus Area Teams Engagement of FHWA and TRB ITF Recommendations now being developed 9

Become a champion for the products that fit your program Identify key technical stakeholders and advocates within your states Carry the message back to your colleagues and peers Become a “lead state” Provide panel members for Implementation Planning Workshops Participate in technical transfer and implement products 12
