5 Support to MPI and interactivity on gLite infrastructures EGEE'07 Support to Environmental Applications Water Quality in Reservoirs  Analysis of water quality in catchments using DYRESM (free to download software from the Centre of Water Research of the University of Western Australia)  One-dimensional Hydrologic and Ecologic analysis are possible  Specially suited for multi-parametric job submissions  Currently working with test data from Itoiz, Pamplona (Spain)

6 Support to MPI and interactivity on gLite infrastructures EGEE'07 Support to Environmental Applications Applications Requirements Reproducing the evolution of an evironmental observable in scales ranging from one day to several years. For daily forecasted observables (pollution) the simulation is only useful if it takes ~ hour to complete. Usually they require the input of meteorological data in real time Morphological information about the landscape is introduced with the help of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Interactive steering: see inmediately the response of the system to changing conditions (weather, antropic factors, etc…) Visualization is needed to provide Interactive steering Resources needed range from 1 CPU to order of 100 of them in parametric or parallel simulations Direct contact with users is essential to have results and models validated with real experience.

7 Support to MPI and interactivity on gLite infrastructures EGEE'07 Support to Environmental Applications Geographical Information Systems (GIS)  Using Soil Moisture Distribution and Routing (SMDR) to simulate the evolution of water runoff areas in a watershed.  SMDR uses GRASS for image processing and visualization: Geographic Resources Analysis Support System Free Software/Open Source GIS allowing data management, image processing, spatial modeling and data visualization  The objective is porting GRASS to int.EU.grid to profit from the parallel computing capabilities of MPI GRASS is already ported in serial mode to the testbed  Currently working on the parallelization of several computation routines using MPI libraries
