4. What is required to be a professional cook? To become a cook, you need a keen sense of taste and smell and an interest in preparing food. The ability to work as part of a team is also important. You should be able to pay close attention to detail, follow recipes, and measure ingredients exactly. Cleanliness, of course, is a must. Prepare dishes according to recipes Clean and cut fish and meat; wash and prepare fruits and vegetables Use deep fryers, ovens, grills, and griddles to cook food Keep kitchen and cooking equipment clean May supervise kitchen workers, order supplies, and help plan menus
