T HE N EW T ESTAMENT C HURCH S CRIPTURAL T EACHING (2)

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE Received from Christ “But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ.” {Galatians 1:11,12}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE Received from Christ “For I have given to them the words which You have given Me ; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.” {John 17:8}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE The Church taught to observe commandments of Christ to Apostles “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age...” {Matthew 28:20}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE The Church taught to observe commandments of Christ to Apostles “For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread.” {1 Corinthians 11:23}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE These commandments given to guide the Church “For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel. Therefore I urge you, imitate me. For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.” {1 Corinthians 4:14-17}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE These commandments given to guide the Church “But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.” {Jude 17}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE These commandments given to guide the Church “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” {1 Corinthians 2:12,13}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE To disregard and refuse Apostolic teaching is to reject God, Christ and the Holy Spirit! “We are of God. He who knows God hears us ; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” {1 John 4:6} “Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit.” {1 Thessalonians 4:8}

C ONTINUE S TEADFASTLY IN THE A POSTLES D OCTRINE To go beyond is to become disobedien t. “Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other.” {1 Corinthians 4:6}

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Prove all things. “ Test all things ; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” {1 Thessalonians 5:21,22}

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : In knowledge and all discernment approve the things that are excellent. “And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ.” {Philippians 1:9,10}

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Hold to the faithful word, speak the things which befit sound doctrine, reprove false teachers. “ Holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.” {Titus 1:9} “But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine.” (2:1)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : No longer tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine. “That we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.” (Ephesians 4:14)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Believe not every spirit, prove them to distinguish between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God.” (1 John 4:1,2)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Believe not every spirit, prove them to distinguish between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. “We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” (1 John 4:6)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Be not carried away by strange teaching, eat at the altar of truth. “Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them. We have an altar from which those who serve the tabernacle have no right to eat.” (Hebrews 13:9,10)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Take heed not to be spoiled by the traditions of men. “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Beware lest being carried away with the error of the wicked ye fall. “You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked ; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever.” (2 Peter 3:17,18)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD THE D OCTRINES AND C OMMANDMENTS OF M EN : Speak only the those things received. “But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:19,20)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. “How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? --but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” (Matthew 16:11,12)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: Cut off the occasion for false teachers and deceitful workers. “But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 11:12,13)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: Cut off the occasion for false teachers and deceitful workers. “And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” (2 Corinthians 11:14,15)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: No fellowship and encouragement to be given to those who refuse to walk in the Apostolic teaching. “But we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who walks disorderly and not according to the tradition which he received from us.” (2 Thessalonians 3:6)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: No fellowship and encouragement to be given to those who refuse to walk in the Apostolic teaching. “And if anyone does not obey our word in this epistle, note that person and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed. Yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.” (2 Thessalonians 3:14,15)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: A factious man after first and second admonition refuse. “But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless. Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition, knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self- condemned.” (Titus 3:9-11)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: Mark and turn away from them that cause division contrary to Apostolic teaching. “Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.” (Romans 16:17,18)

T HE A TTITUDE OF THE C HURCH T OWARD F ALSE T EACHERS: Receive false teachers not into your house, give them no greeting lest you become partaker of their evil deeds. Only to teach. “Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him ; for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.” (2 John 9-11)

T HE D ISASTER OF A LLOWING F ALSE D OCTRINES TO BE T AUGHT IN THE C HURCH : Only takes a “little” false teaching to consume a church! “A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” (Galatians 5:9)

T HE D ISASTER OF A LLOWING F ALSE D OCTRINES TO BE T AUGHT IN THE C HURCH : The warning of Jesus to the Church at Pergamum. “But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate. Repent, or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.” (Revelation 2:14-16)

T HE D ISASTER OF A LLOWING F ALSE D OCTRINES TO BE T AUGHT IN THE C HURCH : The Elders responsible for protecting the Church from the blighting and destructive effects of false doctrines. “Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.” (Acts 20:28,29)

T HE D ISASTER OF A LLOWING F ALSE D OCTRINES TO BE T AUGHT IN THE C HURCH : The Elders responsible for protecting the Church from the blighting and destructive effects of false doctrines. “Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears.” (Acts 20:30,31)

T HE D ISASTER OF A LLOWING F ALSE D OCTRINES TO BE T AUGHT IN THE C HURCH : The Elders responsible for protecting the Church from the blighting and destructive effects of false doctrines. “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts 20:32)
