*and nerves

Cardiac Muscle: Cross Section -Centrally located nuclei

Cardiac Muscle: Longitudinal Section -short, branched cells with 1 or 2 nuclei per cell

Cardiac Muscle: Longitudinal Section -Striated -Short, branched cells with 1 or 2 nuclei per cell -Intercalated disks composed of fasciae adherentes, desmosomes, & gap junctions

Smooth Muscle: Longitudinal section -Relaxed cells have cigar shaped nuclei -Contracted cells have corkscrew shaped nuclei -Nonstriated

Smooth Muscle vs. Dense Regular Connective Tissue (tendon) Super compact, Shiny looking with small nuclei all over the place Tendon: Cigar and cork screw shaped nuclei Smooth muscle:

Smooth Muscle: Longitudinal section -cigar shaped nuclei that are wider than those belonging to fibroblasts in connective tissue

Skeletal Muscle: Cross Section -Peripherally located nuclei (as opposed to the centrally located nuclei in cardiac muscle) -Irregularly shaped bundles

Skeletal Muscle: Mixed Section -STRIATED!! -Multinucleated! (*you can usually see parallel lines of nuclei too) Lines o’ nuclei!

Skeletal Muscle: Longitudinal Section -STRIATED!! -Sarcomere (Z-line to Z-line) -A-band (dark) - I-band (light)

Skeletal Muscle vs. Dense Regular Connective Tissue (tendon) -Why hello there Mr. Striation -Peripherally located nuclei -Usually wavy, shiny looking mess -Nuclei everywhere

Skeletal Muscle vs. Dense Regular Connective Tissue (tendon) Super compact, with tiny pinpoint nuclei all over the place Tendon: A little more loosely spaced with peripherally located, slightly larger nuclei Skeletal muscle:
