1 GCSE Physical Education Information/Discussion Practical Application Links Diagram/Table Activity Revision MAIN MENU CHARACTERISTICS OF A SKILLED PERFORMER/ PERFORMANCE SECTION B GCSE Physical Education UNIT 1 - Information When watching a performer/ performance, how can you identify who is the skilful performer or what is the skilful performance? It is not subjective. There are certain criteria which have to be satisfied for that judgement to be made.

3 GCSE Physical Education Information/Discussion Practical Application Links Diagram/Table Activity Revision MAIN MENU CHARACTERISTICS OF A SKILLED PERFORMER/ PERFORMANCE SECTION B GCSE Physical Education Practical can be classroom based videos or in a physical context. 2 Groups taking part in an activity: – 1 group working 1 group observing – then reverse roles Each member of the observing group will comment on the same 3 or 4 players – in the form of ‘KEY WORDS’ to describe the performances – they can be entered on paper in the form of a spider diagram –back in the classroom, each member of both groups can contribute to a ‘Group Spider Diagram’. UNIT 1 – Practical Application

Emphasis on ‘why’ a certain word is used e.g. Hurdling – ‘TECHNICAL’ – why? – Quick between hurdles, straight lead leg – back to ground quickly – low over hurdles – snappy trailing leg into first stride for next hurdle e.g. Hockey – ‘ACCURATE’ – centre mid-field – able to control and distribute the ball so it is a significant pass – goes to where intended. Using examples from the physical activity is vital. UNIT 1 – Practical Application ‘Who is the more skilful and why?’ ‘Explain why a performance is skilful.’ Discussion
