Cluster and Grid Computing Course Project

Project Proposal Submit a one-page proposal to me by Tuesday, October 12 Two-person teams are encouraged No more than two people per team

Some Project Ideas (not inclusive) Use GT3 to provide secure access on Grid to a distributed resource, along with directory services: –Look for ideas in areas other than computer science, including geosciences (CAST), DNA computing libraries, Demonstrate usage of a higher-level Grid tool –Information services, scheduling, billing, data Grid, … Build and deploy a Shibboleth WAYF and develop Federation guidelines

More ideas (not inclusive) Build a Shibboleth target –Here is the beginning of an example: http://webmpi.csce.uark.edu/ Build a Grid portal for the University of Arkansas –Here is an example: http://uabgrid.uab.eduhttp://uabgrid.uab.edu Here is a sample project from the Network Security class from last year: http://csce.uark.edu/~aapon/courses/gridcomputing/notes/GSIReport.pdf

Guidelines Pick something meaningful –Not just a toy problem that has no extensions Problems that could be extended to master’s projects or theses, or senior projects are encouraged –Identify the part that you will complete this semester for course credit You must use standard Grid and/or middleware tools in a significant way

What you turn in Preliminary report (10% of grade) –One to two page single spaced (12pt font) summary of work completed and detailed description of work to be done. –I need to see evidence of significant progress for full credit on this part. Final report (70% of grade) –In IEEE style http://csce.uark.edu/~aapon/courses/gridcomputing/notes/IEEE_proceedings_best.doc http://csce.uark.edu/~aapon/courses/gridcomputing/notes/IEEE_proceedings_best.pdf –Up to 8 two-column pages. Suggested sections (use what fits your problem the best): Abstract Introduction, Problem Description, Background Description of Approach Results, Conclusions, Future Work, References Classroom presentation and demonstration (20%)

Due dates October 12: Project proposal November 4: Preliminary report November 30 to December 7: classroom presentations and demonstrations (three class periods) December 14, 7:30-9:30am: Final report due and final classroom presentations if needed
